From 1992 to 1995, while in prison for the rape of Desiree Washington, Tyson read a large number of books, including works by Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong. Spike Lee sent Tyson a copy of tennis player Arthur Ashe’s deathbed memoir, Days of Grace. Tyson was moved by the book and respected Ashe’s ability to be nonconfrontational and admired his political views and his success as a black athlete in a white-dominated world. Tyson got prison tattoos of both men on his biceps: A portrait of Mao, captioned with “Mao” in all-caps, on the left; a portrait of Ashe beneath the words “Days of Grace” on the right. Gerald Early views the Mao and Ashe tattoos as together “symboliz both newfound self-control and his revision of black cool”, with Mao representing strength and authority. Clifton Brown in The New York Times describes the Ashe tattoo as “a contradiction” with Tyson’s “fits of rage”. Early and biographer Richard Hoffer cast the two bicep tattoos as an unusual combination of, in Hoffer’s words, “alternate icons”.

After picking out his chosen tattoos, Paul was then placed under anaesthetics for an eight-hour session. The method uses ‘anaesthetics with qualified medical personnel that is specially prepared for this type of work environment’, as per The Sun.

Each tattoo, from the famous tribal design on his face to the portraits on his arms, symbolises his journey through turmoil and triumph. As the bout with Jake Paul approaches, Tyson’s tattoos remind us of the depth and complexity of his character, which he will bring once again into the spotlight. Let’s discuss more about his tattoos.

Even this early in the fight, Joyce looked ridiculously slow and the panic of being caught cleanly took him away from any game plan that he brought into the ring. Again, the home fight was stationary, confused, and a sitting duck for his opponent’s power shots.

Testimony to the efficacy and vitality of images manifests in what they appear to do, what people do as a result, what they expect the form to achieve and why there are expectations at all.

In 1992, Tyson was convicted of rape and sentenced to six years in prison. He was released on parole after three years. After his release in 1995, he engaged in a series of comeback fights, regaining the WBA and WBC titles in 1996 to join Floyd Patterson, Muhammad Ali, Tim Witherspoon, Evander Holyfield and George Foreman as the only men in best boxing weight division history to have regained a heavyweight championship after losing it. After being stripped of the WBC title in the same year, Tyson lost the WBA title to Evander Holyfield by an eleventh round stoppage. Their 1997 rematch ended when Tyson was disqualified for biting Holyfield’s ears, one bite notoriously being strong enough to remove a portion of his right ear. In 2002, Tyson fought for the world heavyweight title, losing by knockout to Lennox Lewis.

“I was a big underdog going into the Joe Joyce fight. Everybody was talking about his 15-0 record, undefeated, Joe Joyce will destroy me in six rounds, that’s what everybody was saying. He’s the juggernaut, he’s unbreakable, but I went in there with a good preparation with my coach Shaun George and everybody can see the work,” said Zhang.

The visitor continued to look dangerous in the second and threatened to put Joyce to the canvas with an emphatic right-left combination that left the home favourite stumbling towards the ropes. The punishment soon drew blood from the nose of Joyce, who by now was beginning to swell under the eye such was Zhang’s early dominance.

It’s going to be exciting.”
