Place game world series 5
“It was very magical. It reminded me of Kirk Gibson back in ’88,” said fan Anthony Russo, referring to Gibson’s walk-off two-run homer in that year’s World Series Game 1. https://tyomd.com/ “And hopefully we get another victory tonight and shut those Yankees down.”
NEW YORK — Assuming the voting results for the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani and the Yankees’ Aaron Judge go as we expect them to go (hint: they will), this is only the seventh World Series to feature that season’s two MVPs.
Everywhere you look in this World Series matchup, there are stars. While some fans might jeer at the Yankees and Dodgers being the last teams standing, MLB could not have asked for a more star-studded showdown between cornerstone franchises heavily-linked by history.
9:51 p.m. — The Yankees are threatening more runs in the sixth inning. Against the Dodgers’ Anthony Banda, Chisholm singled, Volpe was intentionally walked and Wells reached on an infield hit after a huge diving stop from Edman to prevent a run. The bases are juiced for Alex Verdugo.
World series 1 game highlights
In all best-of-seven series, teams winning Game 1 have gone on to take the series 125 of 191 times (65%). That includes 23 of 29 times (79%) in the World Series since 1995. In all series under the current 2-3-2 format, teams winning Game 1 at home have gone on to take the series 68 of 101 times (67%).
The Phillies’ top reliever, Seranthony Domínguez, came on to pitch in the eighth inning after Ranger Suárez allowed a one-out single to Kyle Tucker. After Yuli Gurriel grounded into a fielder’s choice for the second out, Domínguez struck out Trey Mancini. The Philadelphia and Houston bullpens have combined for 6⅔ scoreless innings.
Like most Washington Nationals fans, Dean Schleicher was upset the day Bryce Harper agreed to a record-setting 13-year, $330 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies in February 2019. Harper was Washington’s homegrown, feisty, brash superstar, a worth-the-price-of-admission phenom others loved to hate. At 26 and after seven memorable seasons in D.C., he was headed to a division rival with a fan base Nationals supporters had good reason to despise, and he seemed poised to torment his former team long after his well-coiffed hair and beard turned gray.

World series game score 6
Tom Seaver atoned for his Game 1 ineffectiveness by shutting out the Orioles through eight innings. Once again, Donn Clendenon provided the lead with a homer in the second off Game 1 winner Mike Cuellar, who allowed just that run over seven solid innings. In the third inning, after arguing ball-strike calls too strenuously with plate umpire Shag Crawford, Earl Weaver of the Orioles became the first manager since 1935 to be ejected from a World Series game. At the start of the argument, NBC’s microphones picked up Crawford screaming at Weaver, “You shut your goddamn mouth!”
5. 1991: Twins 4, Braves 3 (Forced Game 7)The day before Minnesota’s Jack Morris won his famous duel with John Smoltz to clinch the World Series, Kirby Puckett did his own Superman impersonation in Game 6 to keep the Twins alive.
2. 1986: Mets 6, Red Sox 5 (Forced Game 7)The Red Sox, trying to close out their first championship since 1918, lost a 3-2 lead when Gary Carter hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth. Boston scored twice in the 10th, including Dave Henderson’s leadoff homer, but with two outs and nobody on base in the bottom of the frame, things unraveled. After three straight singles, a wild pitch and Mookie Wilson’s grounder through the legs of first baseman Bill Buckner, the Mets walked off to set up their Game 7 triumph.
