Anything can happen in baseball, but after two, it’s Los Angeles with complete control after two big wins. It’s not over until it’s over, and New York certainly isn’t ready to be done. They need at least two wins to force the series back to LA where Dodger fans will anxiously be waiting to see their squad in the final dance.
Marty Barrett, in a losing effort, recorded 13 hits — tying the single World Series record — and a .433 average. Dave Henderson recorded ten hits and a .400 average, while Jim Rice and Wade Boggs each had nine hits.
• There have been 61 winner-take-all Game 7s, between the World Series and LCS, counting the 1912 World Series, which required an eighth game but only due to an earlier tie. Leaving out 2020 games played at neutral sites, home teams have gone 30-29, including the Astros and Phillies losses in the LCS.

After back-to-back upset losses to division rivals in the postseason in 2022 and 2023, the Dodgers looked to reshape their roster. In the off-season, they signed superstar two-way player Shohei Ohtani to a record $700 million, 10 year contract. Other big additions were signing outfielder Teoscar Hernández and pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (from Japan through the posting system) and trading for starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow. During the regular season, the Dodgers were not quite as dominant as previous years due to various pitching injuries, a two-month hand injury to Mookie Betts, and a three-month abdominal injury to Max Muncy, failing to win 100 games for the first time in a full season since 2018. However, they still achieved the best win-loss record in the majors that year and won the National League West. They qualified for the postseason for the 12th consecutive season, dating back to 2013, the third-longest streak in MLB history.
“No one’s done what we’re trying to accomplish ,” said catcher Austin Wells, “so I think if you put too much pressure on it at this point, you’re going to fail yourself, and you’re not going to enjoy the journey. I think seeing what happens and having fun is where we’re at.”
Who are the starting pitchers?Dodgers: RHP Jack Flaherty (13-7, 3.17 ERA during regular season)Flaherty pitched well in Game 1 of the World Series, allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings, and he will now get a chance to close out the Fall Classic for his hometown team. The right-hander struggled on regular rest against the Mets, allowing eight runs over three innings in Game 5 of the NLCS. But outside of that, Flaherty has been solid for the Dodgers this postseason.
If he’s anything like the Gerrit Cole we saw in Game 1, when he held the Dodgers to one run on four hits over six-plus innings at Dodger Stadium, then the Yankees pulse that was revived in Game 4 could quicken in Game 5.
Yankees: RHP Luis Gil (15-7, 3.50 ERA during regular season)Gil will make his second start of the postseason after tossing four innings of two-run ball in Game 4 of the ALCS at Cleveland on Oct. 18. A leading candidate for the AL’s Rookie of the Year Award, Gil faced the Dodgers on June 9 at Yankee Stadium, taking a no-decision as he permitted three runs over 5 2/3 innings in a 6-4 Yankees win.

Other locations glimpsed in trailers include Kijimi, home to a hive-mind syndicate based on the Medlitto species called the Ashiga Clan; the humid jungle planet of Akiva; and Cantonica, home to the infamous casino city Canto Bight.
As for how Ubisoft has designed the open world to be explored, Khavari said the goal is to “make sure that the player organizes their experience according to their desires.” The team wants to avoid the Ubisoft open-world critique of maps crowded with icons that lead to repetitive activities. The goal here is to create worlds “so dense and so rich with different distractions that we won’t have to rely on so many UI indications for them,” he said.
Key developers include game director Mathias Karlson (The Division 2), creative director Julian Gerighty (The Division 2), narrative director Navid Khavari (Far Cry 6), art and world director Benedikt Podlesniggand (The Division 2), and lead writer Nikki Foy (Far Cry 6).
Gerighty added: “Our objective is to really get people into a very dense, rich adventure, open world adventure that they can explore at their own rhythm. So it is absolutely not a 200- or 300-hour epic unfinishable RPG. This is a very focused action-adventure RPG that will take people on a ride and is very manageable.”

And so it came as not much of a surprise when on Jan. 7, 1971, it was announced that for the first time in major league history a World Series game, in this particular case the fourth game of the 1971 Fall Classic, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 13, would be played at night. Kuhn announced that the historic game would take place in the park of the National League pennant winner … unless was the Chicago Cubs. Wrigley Field, at the time, was the only of the 24 big league parks without lights, so in that event, the game would be played in the afternoon.
“This innovation will make it possible for additional millions of fans to see baseball’s postseason classic,” Kuhn said. “I feel the television audience will be of the same dimension that watched the 1970 All-Star Game from Cincinnati.”
Considered an outstanding outfielder, a superb base runner, and a fine team player, Maris played on three World Series championship teams, twice with the New York Yankees and once with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 1991 World Series saw the Minnesota Twins defeating the Atlanta Braves four games to three to win the championship. ESPN selected it as the “Greatest of All Time” in their “World Series 100th Anniversary” countdown, with five of its games being decided by a single run, four games decided in the final at-bat and three games going into extra innings. The series was also notable for both participants having finished last in their divisions the year prior; no last place team before had ever finished first, let alone reached the World Series, the following year.
