The last time the Yankees were down 2-0 in the World Series was 1996. Just like this year, that team had broken a 15-year World Series drought but had fallen in the first two contests. The 2024 version is hoping history repeats itself starting tonight.
“We have just got to stay focused, stay urgent,” Roberts said postgame of his team’s World Series chances. “Offensively, to be quite honest, we left a lot of runs out there tonight and still found a way win a ball game. There’s got to be urgency. I don’t want to let these guys up for air.”

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers took Game 1 of the World Series 6-3 on Friday after a walk-off grand slam by Freddie Freeman in the bottom of the 10th — the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history.

As is the case for the entire Fall Classic, Game 6 of the World Series will be broadcast on Fox. Joe Davis will lead the coverage as the play-by-play announcer. He’ll be joined in the booth by John Smoltz, who will offer analysis. Ken Rosenthal and Tom Verducci will offer insight and interviews from field level.
The Orioles repeated as AL East champs the next season, when they won 108 games, one fewer than the previous year. In the ALCS, they swept the Minnesota Twins for the second straight year to return to the World Series, this time, they were victorious in five games over the Cincinnati Reds.

He’s the first player in postseason history with multiple streaks of homering in at least four straight games. To suggest any of the games, however many remain, can match Game 1 is unfair — unless this is the sort of series where magic courses throughout, where two teams are so good, so evenly matched, so ready for the moment, so keen to win, that the hype is simply an accelerant. Maybe Game 2 on Saturday night continues where Game 1 so clearly delivered.
