The thing that Mad Max understands that so many other open-world games tragically forget is that navigating an open world often needs to be as entertaining (if not more entertaining) than completing activities in that world. Driving around a massive desert in your car is ridiculously amusing, and nearly every other element of the game exists to enhance that fundamental appeal of the experience. – MB
