World series game 2016 7
Of the 41 teams to fall behind 3-0 in a best-of-seven postseason series, the Yankees are only the 10th to even avoid a sweep. Of the previous nine to do so, four managed to force a Game 6 and two forced a Game 7, although none of those occurred in the World Series.< https://portal-credo.info/ /p>
Dodgers starting pitcher Ben Casparius speaking after Game 4 about the Mookie Betts/fan-interference play: “Never seen anything like that. It was interesting, especially I think it being the second or third pitch or the game, an interesting start to the game for sure.
For the first time since 1970, and only the fourth time ever, a World Series that was three games to none is headed to a Game 5. It’s Gerrit Cole vs. Jack Flaherty. Dodgers fans will be feeling significantly more heartburn Wednesday than they did tonight, but the series is still tilted heavily toward in their favor. As in, nobody has ever blown a 3-0 lead in the World Series. But that thought doesn’t feel so comforting right now, does it?
Dodgers fans back in Los Angeles took to the streets to celebrate their team’s Fall Classic victory, with fireworks set off around the city and outside Dodger Stadium, and police warning of affected traffic because of the celebrations.
“We’re grinders,” Betts said. “We never thought we were out of it. We just had to score one at a time. It was crazy how it unfolded. I mean, you gotta play a clean game to beat us, and our character came through.”

Before the AL and NL were split into divisions in 1969, the team with the best regular-season win–loss record in each league won its pennant and advanced to the World Series, barring a tie necessitating a pennant playoff. Since then each league has conducted a League Championship Series (ALCS and NLCS) preceding the World Series to determine which teams will advance, while those series have been preceded in turn by Division Series (ALDS and NLDS) since 1995, and Wild Card games or series in each league since 2012. Until 2002, home-field advantage in the World Series alternated from year to year between the AL and NL. From 2003 to 2016, home-field advantage was given to the league that won that year’s All-Star Game. Starting in 2017, home-field advantage was awarded to the league champion team with the better regular-season win–loss record, regardless of that team’s seeding in earlier playoff rounds (i.e. a Wild Card team in one league will have home-field advantage over a division winner in the other league if it had a better record or wins the tie-breaking procedure).
With 69 innings in total, the 1991 World Series shares the record for longest seven-game World Series ever, in terms of innings, with the 1924 World Series which was won by the Washington Senators, who would then become the Minnesota Twins.
