World series game 2016 7
• It isn’t just the back-to-back games for Freeman. He’s homered in four consecutive World Series games dating back to 2021 with the Braves. That’s tied for the second-longest streak in the Fall Classic, with Reggie Jackson and Lou Gehrig. https://portal-credo.info/ He trails only George Springer, who did so in five straight.
After a stunning walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the tenth inning Friday night by Freddie Freeman to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead in the World Series, the New York Yankees are looking to even the score Saturday night before returning to the Bronx.
Who is hot and who is not?Yankees: Stanton continues to do his best Reggie Jackson impression, now batting .282 with six homers and 13 RBIs in 10 postseason games. Volpe has reached safely in all 10 games this postseason (.273/.429/.303). Soto reached base three times in Game 1 and is slashing .333/.457/.639. Torres singled and doubled in Game 1 and has a .400 on-base percentage. Judge was 1-for-5 with three strikeouts in his first career World Series game and is batting just .167 in the postseason.
Dodgers: The Dodgers used all their high-leverage relievers in Game 1, but they should be available again on Saturday. The question for L.A. will be whether or not Alex Vesia and Brusdar Graterol will be able to pitch on back-to-back nights given they’re both coming off injuries. L.A. has plenty of coverage, if needed, with Ben Casparius, Landon Knack and Brent Honeywell on the roster.
Any injuries of note?Yankees: Verdugo said that he would probably be sore after making a terrific catch in the 10th inning of Game 1. Rizzo is playing through two fractured fingers on his right hand, which is a pain tolerance issue, as the fractures won’t heal until the offseason. Infielder DJ LeMahieu (right hip impingement) has been continuing to hit and field throughout the playoffs.
Who won game 3 of the world series
Only building on his World Series MVP case after his Game 1 heroics, Freeman gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead in the first inning that they never looked back from. Dating back to his time with the Braves in the 2021 World Series, it was Freeman’s fifth consecutive World Series game with a home run, which tied George Springer for the all-time record.
The Yankees rotation hasn’t been nearly as good. Game 3 starter Clarke Schmidt was in trouble early and out of the game quickly. He opened with a four-pitch walk to leadoff hitter Ohtani — who was in the Dodgers’ lineup despite dislocating his shoulder in Game 2 — and two batters later, Freeman homered on a two-strike pitch to give the Dodgers an early 2-0 lead. Schmidt walked the first batter of the third inning, too, and Mookie Betts drove in that run. Schmidt was pulled after two more walks loaded the bases in the third, making this the first time all year that he failed to get through at least four innings. Yankees Game 2 starter Carlos Rodón also failed to get through four.
“You know, this year, we’ve battled, we’ve faced adversity, and we just keep coming back and punching back,” Freeman said. “And it’s just a credit to our guys, our staff, everyone in this organization, we believe in ourselves, and we’ve been doing it so far.”
